Marketing copywriting wasn’t exactly where I thought I’d end up. When I set out to college, I had all intentions of being just like Agent Scully from the X-files. Then I realized that TV shows aren’t real life and who wants someone with really bad eyesight carrying a gun, anyway?
So, there I was, working as a Paralegal, about to be married to the perfect suburban white collar corporate dude when I got rescued from my gilded cage by opportunity. I accepted a job with a start-up company called Sunrise Signs. Marketing copywriting was suddenly something I did every day.
Sunrise Signs afforded me the most indelible learning experience. I became the Vice President of Operations, where changing the toilet paper came along with managing a stellar design team, developing marketing copywriting to reach company objectives, and sales initiatives which accrued over 50% of the annual revenue our first few years.
However, the company saw it’s most significant growth based not on good old-fashioned hand shaking but inbound marketing. Ultimately, it was the creative copywriting I contributed to the SEO driven website content, blogs, newsletters, articles, landing pages, whitepapers and ebooks that drastically enhanced our business model. It was beyond fulfilling for me to move forward and develop my own writing business.
